It seems many times when we tell people we are parents of a special needs child we get the same response from people. They say, “I could never do the things you do”. Fact is if they were in my shoes they would do the same things for their child. I am no stronger than anybody else.
It always amazes me. I speak to women all over the country and many times abroad. Women have put themselves in a corner of sorts. They get so weighed down with what they can not do instead of looking at all they can do. I have spoken to many women who just speak of what they can not do. It is disheartening to see and hear.
Second Timothy 1:7 says, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, and of self discipline.” I love this verse, my husband introduced me to it many years ago while on a missions trip. God did not make us to be put in a corner. He has given us power and self discipline.
Humans can endure more than they think they can. I have seen the stories of people surviving the unsurvivable. Just recently I read of a hiker who broke their ankle and survived eight days in the wilderness alone. We hear of these stories and we say the same thing, “I could never do that”. We are stronger than we think we are.
We are wonderfully and fearfully made in the image of our Father in heaven. He will not let us be tested beyond what we can bear. He will provide a way out for us. He will give us the strength we need when we need it.
There have been many times I can look back and know only God could have given me the power to overcome the things we have overcome. We have come a long way with our son and I am sure there is still a long road ahead. I do know one thing. God will always provide what I need when I need it and not sooner.
When you are struggling, remember that God our heavenly Father has given us power and self discipline to overcome anything that comes our way. This gives us a fresh way to look at everyday. Focus on what God is doing in us.

Thanks for this, I appreciate the insight!
