The Perfect Dad

The words dad and father have a lot of implications when mentioned to certain people. They can stir up painful memories of abuse or neglect. My father was a good dad, he did the best he could. He worked 4 jobs when I was young. I didn’t get to see him as much as I would have liked to. When he was home he played with us and did fun things with me and my three sisters.

I think we often make the mistake of equating our earthly father with our Heavenly Father. They are not the same and could never be compared. It is not fair to our earthly father. He could never measure up to what our Heavenly Father has to offer.

Our Heavenly Father is always there for you. He never wants to hurt us. God truly knows what is best for us. He gives us free will but is there to offer help when we ask for it. He comforts us when we are hurt, no matter what hurt us. God wants to protect you and defend you. One of my favorite things about God is that He thinks about me all the time.

I know that sounds selfish, but it is true. God takes pride in us. Psalm 139:17-18 tells us we are precious to Him. He thinks about us more than anything. God is the perfect dad. He truly loves us and wants the very best for us. We need to continue to work on our relationship with our Heavenly Father. It is the only way we are going to learn more about our perfect dad.

Over the next few weeks I will blog about ways to continue to build that relationship. Stay tuned for blogs about spriritual disciplines. You will learn more about your Heavenly Father and how to walk close to Him.
