Staying Healthy While Traveling

Staying healthy while traveling can be challenging. You hear the sick people around you coughing and sneezing away. You don’t even want to think about the person who sat in your seat before you. I have put together a list of items for you to have with you when you travel to keep you healthy on the road. Several of these are supplements so please be sure to check with your doctor before taking any of these there could be complications with medication you are taking. I am not a doctor or a member of the medical community so be sure to go over this list with our doctor who knows your history before you add these to your travel kit.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit seed extract is the first on my list. I use this is place of Pepto Bismol for stomach issues. This is a great one to have on hand if you get hit with Dheli Belly of Montezuma’s Revenge. Along with Grapefruit seed extract I also have Activated Charcoal with me. This is an all encompassing supplement to take for stomach issues related to contaminated foods.

Melatonin is next on the list. Melatonin is very helpful for sleep. This one is great when traveling across several time zones to help you over come jet lag quickly. This is also helpful to get you to sleep when you are having trouble falling asleep. Be careful with how much you take, taking too much can cause nightmares.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are always helpful to have on hand. They are great to help with the smells around you but they can also help calm and soothe you. I have found essential oils can also help to create a relaxing environment when you are adjusting to a new place.

Elderberry is my new best friend. Taking elderberry in conjunction with Vitamin C is a great way to keep yourself healthy on the road. Elderberry is packed with antioxidants and can help boost your immune system. I take elderberry when I first feel signs of not feeling well. You can also take them as a preventative measure before you fly. This is one of the keys to staying healthy while traveling.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a very important supplement that we don’t all get regularly. It is an important part of building immunity in our system. It helps white blood cells function effectively while protecting them from potentially harmful molecules such as free radicals.

Medical Mask

A medical mask is always good to have on hand. You can use this mask if you are sick to keep from spreading your germs and getting others sick. I have also found it handy when a seat mate was sick or coughing too much for my comfort. This is a good way to keep you from putting your hands in your mouth and transferring germs to your mouth.

Water Bottle

You will want to have a water bottle with you at all times when you are on the road. Hydration is very important, especially if you are flying. It’s easy to get dehydrated. Hydration is crucial for many reasons, regulate your body temperature, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells and keeping joints lubricated just to name a few.

Essential Oil Diffuser

If you use essential oils you will want to have a small travel diffuser. I have tried the waterless diffusers and have not had the same results as the water diffusers. I like this one because it is small, USB powered and it makes a good night light.

Sanitizer is important to have staying healthy on the road. Everything you encounter while you travel is covered in germs and bacteria. Use sanitizing wipes to wipe down your seat on a plane as well as the tray table. Keep your hands clean and sanitize after interactions with others as you travel. It will also come in handy if there is no soap or paper towels in the bathroom.
